About this Project

A leading manufacturer of visual display and presentation products was looking to reward and energise their EMEA sales team with an activity that was competitive, memorable, and set apart from the usual corporate outing. The brief was clear: something fun, something team-driven, and somewhere that felt like a genuine discovery rather than a staged event. The destination needed to be close to Amsterdam, yet offer a more intimate and characterful atmosphere. Haarlem — with its historic canal-lined streets, independent spirit, and unhurried pace — was the natural choice.

The Challenge

Designing an activity for a high-performing international sales team is never straightforward. The group needed to be engaged mentally, not just physically. The experience had to balance competition with camaraderie, structure with spontaneity, and corporate purpose with genuine enjoyment. On top of that, the client had a specific request: the activity should weave in the history and architectural heritage of Haarlem, turning the city itself into the centrepiece of the programme.

The Solution

SkyMar DMC was involved in the conception of a fully customized city quest challenge that transformed Haarlem’s historic city centre into a live, interactive playing field. Each team was handed a carefully crafted scavenger hunt package featuring a series of challenges tied to the city’s most interesting and historically significant landmarks. To add a creative and tangible element, every team was equipped with a Polaroid camera — tasked with photographing completed challenges as evidence, the cameras also became an unexpected source of laughter, creativity, and friendly rivalry throughout the afternoon.
The pause points turned out to be some of the most talked-about moments of the day — the atmosphere was so warm and the conversations so engaging that several teams lingered far longer than anticipated, lost in discussion and clearly in no rush to move on. It was exactly the kind of unscripted, human moment that no programme document can plan for — and a strong sign that the experience had hit the right note.

On the Ground Support

To ensure the activity ran smoothly despite the natural unpredictability of a city-wide scavenger hunt, a team of dedicated hostesses was stationed and reachable throughout. Whether a team needed directional guidance, a hint, or simply reassurance that they were still in the running, support was always close at hand. This allowed participants to stay fully immersed in the experience without anxiety, and ensured that no team was left behind — literally or figuratively.

The Finale

After three hours of exploring, competing, and connecting, all teams converged at a carefully selected Haarlem restaurant, where they were welcomed with a well-earned round of drinks on the terrace. The energy was high, the stories were already flowing, and the competitive spirit had given way to a shared sense of achievement. The group then moved inside for a three-course dinner — a relaxed, celebratory setting in which the results were finally revealed. The winning teams were announced to well-deserved applause, and prizes were awarded with genuine ceremony. In a particularly thoughtful touch, the team that finished last also received a prize — a gesture that drew laughter, warmth, and perhaps the biggest cheer of the evening. By the end of the night, it was clear that everyone had not only had a great time, but had left with stronger connections and a renewed team spirit.
