Beginner’s Guide to the Perfect Dart Throw
Mastering the art of darts isn’t about strength; it’s about repetition and rhythm. Follow these four steps to start hitting the board like a pro: 1. Find Your Stance Don’t stand front-on to the board. Instead, stand at an angle with your dominant foot forward (if you’re right-handed, put your right foot at the oche). Your lead toe should touch the line, and your body should be stable. This reduces the distance to the board and aligns your throwing arm with the target. 2. The Grip There is no “right” way to hold a dart, but the most common is the pencil grip. Use at least three fingers (thumb, index, and middle) to maintain control. Keep your grip light—squeezing the dart too hard causes the muscles in your forearm to tense, which ruins your aim. 3. Alignment and Aim Bring the dart up to eye level. Sight your target (like the “Triple 20”) just above the tip of the dart. Your elbow should point directly at the board and remain tucked in; if your elbow flares out to the side, your dart will likely fly left or right. 4. The Throwing Motion (The “L”) Think of your arm as a catapult. The only part of your body that should move is your forearm and wrist. • The Drawback: Pull the dart back slowly toward your eye. • The Acceleration: Move your hand forward in a smooth, fluid motion. • The Release: Let go of the dart just before your arm is fully extended. • The Follow-Through: This is the most important part! After you release the dart, keep your arm moving until your finger is pointing directly at the target.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

1. Gameplay & Rules

What is the standard distance from the board?
The throwing line, known as the “oche” (pronounced okkey), is set at a standard distance of 7 feet 9.25 inches (2.37 meters) from the face of the dartboard. We ensure all our lanes are professionally measured to regulation standards.
Do I need to know how to count points?
Not at all! While traditional darts involves subtracting from 501 or 301, we offer interactive digital scoring [if applicable] or simple games like “Around the Clock” and “Killer” that are easy for beginners to follow.
What is a 'Double-Out'?
In professional play, you must hit a “double” (the outer ring) to win the game. For casual bookings, we can simplify the rules so that any hit on the winning number secures the victory.

2. Group Bookings

How many people can play on one lane?
To keep the game moving and ensure everyone gets enough “throw time,” we recommend 2 to 6 players per board. For larger groups, we can link multiple adjacent lanes.
Can we order food and drinks while playing?
Absolutely. We offer “lane service” so you can enjoy snacks and drinks without interrupting your match. We just ask that you keep drinks away from the immediate throwing area and the dartboard.
Can I host a party or corporate events here?
Game of Darts, we have the perfect venue for team building, birthdays, or bachelor/bachelorette parties. We offer private lanes and group food and beverage packages to enhance your event.

3. Equipment & Safety

Do I need to bring my own darts?
We provide high-quality tungsten or brass darts with various flight styles for all players. However, experienced players are more than welcome to bring their own personal set to use on our boards.
How do you ensure player safety?
There will be an instruction first where the instruction will talk about all the safety precautions to the game. Each dart lane is designed with a safety buffer zone. Players must stay behind the oche until all three darts have been thrown, and walking across active lanes is strictly prohibited.
